INNOVATIVE INITIATIVE GRANTS

In alignment with the Vision of the Global Citizen, this program enables the district to bring innovative educational experiences to multiple grade levels by financially supporting programs that inspire our students and prepare them to thrive in a global economy.

Engineering Labs

Through corporate and individual donations, FPSF provided a grant for $138,000 to the Farmington Public Schools to create Engineering Labs and Programs in grades 5-12, our first Innovative Initiative.

Funding from this grant:
  • Built a new Engineering Design and Prototyping lab at Farmington High School.
  • Supported new engineering programs at Irving Robbins Middle School and West Woods Upper Elementary School.
  • Furnished technological resources needed to implement these educational programs.

EDGE Media Labs

New-Media Literacy has been identified as one of the top 10 skills for the future workforce. This is defined as the “ability to critically assess and develop content that uses new media forms, and to leverage media for persuasive communication.” (Forbes Magazine).

Through our district-wide Innovative Initiative grant, FPSF has committed to fund the EDGE Media Labs to bring new media literacy and technology to our students.

The Edge Media Labs:
  • Help students develop a “maker mindset” critical to innovation oriented fields of work.
  • Create a team-based approach to iterative problem solving and design thinking.
  • Provide curriculum-based opportunities for abstract expression through multi-media.
  • Inspire students to create aesthetic products and presentations that engage audiences through sight, sound, and tactile senses.
